Procedure

Purpose:

To examine the esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine for issues like ulcers or inflammation.

Preparation:

  • Fast for 6-8 hours before the procedure (no food or drink).
  • Sedation will be provided to help you relax.

Procedure:

  • A thin, flexible tube with a camera (endoscope) is inserted through the mouth into the stomach.
  • A local anesthetic spray will numb your throat to reduce discomfort.
  • The procedure typically takes 10-15 minutes.

Safety and Comfort:

  • It is generally well-tolerated with sedation.
  • Complications like bleeding or perforation are very rare.

Post-Procedure:

  • You may feel drowsy; arrange for someone to take you home.
